Chapter 19

Ionee

“Lea?” I screamed as I opened our hotel room, finding my best friend standing in the doorway. “What are you doing here?”

“Well, I heard my best friend got engaged to the man of her dreams, so I needed to come see her and celebrate. Plus, someone offered me VIP tickets to see Alchemy Myth in Madison Square Gardens.”

She looked stunning. Her long dark hair was loose, framing her heart shaped face. Dressed in a plain t-shirt, cut off jean shorts, and trainers, she looked like she was made for New York. I stepped back, welcoming her in.

“So let me see. He said he didn’t go traditional.”

I held out my wrist.

“Shit… that’s a lot of stones. Are they real?”

“I think they are, but I don’t care if he stuck them on himself. It’s stunning and perfect and he bought it for me.”

“And that’s why you’re fiancée material and I’m going to be alone forever. I would have had it appraised within the hour. Do you even know how much he paid for it?”

I slapped her arm. “No, and I’m not even going to ask. God, Lea.”

“Sorry.” She sighed, rubbing her temples. “I’m a cow. Just ignore me.”

I walked into mine and Archer’s suite, sitting down and tapping the sofa next to me. “Come talk to me. What’s going on?”

Lea walked over, dropping her bag to the floor and kicking off her shoes. “Fox,” she let out with a sad sigh. “He’s still texting and calling me every day. I’m just worried that being around him will be hard.”

“Hard because you don’t want to see him or hard because you like him…”

She glanced out of the windows at the New York skyline and sighed. “Hard because I like him, alright. I like Fox Garrison, and I can’t stop thinking about him,” she huffed.

“And Charlie?”

“Him and I have become really good friends. I talk to him most days too, but that’s a very different conversation to the ones I have with Fox.”

“And what’s stopping you from being with Fox again?”

“I’ve told you. He’s not enough. He would never be enough. And I don’t want to break his heart because—”

A knock interrupted our conversation.

“Come in,” I yelled, knowing the security outside the suite wouldn’t let just anyone get close.

“Hey, Ionee. Are you ready to go? We need to leave in fifteen so I can make sure everything is set up and ready to go for tonight’s gig.”

I stood.

“I just need to change, and I’m ready. Dawson, this is my best friend, Lea. Lea, this is Dawson. He’s taken over managing the band.”

“And you’ve not quit in the first few weeks. Either Charlie is losing his touch or you’re really good at your job,” she laughed.

Dawson stared at her, his face lighting up.

I coughed, trying to drag his attention away from my friend, but when I turned to apologize to Lea for his weirdness, she was staring at him just as intently.

“Right, I’ll leave you two here while I get changed. I won’t be long.
